Possibly the coolest thing I learned in South Luangwa is how leopards have adapted to using sausage trees for specialized hunting. Overnight, the fruits of the sausage trees open and fall each morning, attracting impalas beneath to feed. The leopards have learned to take advantage of this behavior, waiting motionless in the treetops and using the impalas' lack of color vision to stay undetected, waiting for the perfect moment to pounce and make a kill.
